Earth Day Success! Diamond Properties & Our Tenants Collect & Recycle 4,372 lbs. of Electron
Earth Day has came and went again. Did you do something to make the world a better place? We did! Our electronics collection was a success, we collected even more than we did last year. This year we are had Tekovery come pick up our electronics. I wanted to include our tenants in the decision making process of who should recycle our electronics. I put a post up on our Diamond Properties facebook page, so they were actually referred to us by one of our tenants who had commented. Tekovery safely removes hazardous materials before recycling any IT assets for precious metals and other materials. By recycling anything that cannot be liquidated or used otherwise, we reduce our carbon footprint when disposing of our IT assets.. They have a no-landfill policy, and their recycling processes follow their eGreen environmental procedure. All materials recycled are dispersed into over 40 material streams. Any electronics that can be refurbished, Tekovery donates to some organizations they work with on the West Coast, such as The Futures Foundation and Miracle Babies. Their motto is “Being green isn’t just a word. It’s how we do business.”
There are so many places as to where you can recycle your electronics year round and not just on earth day. There are also other ways to make the world a better place from your home, such as composting your food. We generate 21.5 million tons of food waste each year, if we all composted it would decrease the equivalent amount of greenhouse gas as taking an estimated 2 million cars off the road. If we all reused the same cup instead of using a paper cup and throwing it away, we could save an estimated 9.4 billion trees that are cut down each year. Recycling just one can, saves enough energy to run a TV for 2 hours. There is so much we can do to make changes in our environment, It just takes a little research and dedication. Let’s change the world, one cup, can and electronic at a time!
We have held this electronics event for the past 2 years and I hope to do it every single year! The tenants really appreciate it and we feel really good after we unload all of the collected electronics into the Safe Haven loading dock. The goal this year was to recycle more than we recycled last year and we definitely succeeded.
